Timaru Merino Stud NSW

The Timaru stud flock is used to breed rams and ewes to maintain the stud flock going forward and to improve the commercial flock of approximately 350 ewes.

All lambs bred from the commercial flock are marked as ewes and wethers. The ewes are used to help improve the commercial ewe flock and the wethers are used to maintain and improve a wether flock of approximately 1000.

It is this wether flock that provides the majority of the wool produced at Timaru. The shearing of the first wethers bred on Timaru in 2014 and shorn August 2015, produced wool of 16.8 micron average and comfort factor 99.6.

A decision was taken to bring shearing forward to April for the 2016 shearing and when results are to hand they will be posted here.
